Geoffrey is a Wilderness/Nature Therapist Wilderness Living Skills Instructor.

I am delighted to invite you to Pathfinder the school of Natural Awareness and Tracking. The participants who attend my workshops gather together because they share a love of the wilderness and a desire to work with the psyche and spirit within a fun and collaborative atmosphere.

Natural Awareness courses will be of interest to outdoor practitioners, counsellors and psychotherapists, policy makers, trainers, researchers, students, wilderness guides, students, social workers, police and nature/adventure therapists and anybody with an interest in developing within the field of nature therapy and tracking.

Through these hands-on, experiential workshops, the courses will provide a forum for the exchange and development of ideas, fostering collaboration among the varied professional areas within the field of wilderness/nature therapy, using a variety of wilderness-living-skills, tracking and nature awareness games and exercises.

I encourage cooperation, inquiry and sharing. I ask that people leave marketing agendas at the door and come with a willingness to share knowledge and ideas with all participants for the greater good.

What other professionals had to say about Natural Awareness

According to (Ward, 2007; Mortensen, 2006; & Dorell, 2006) Natural Awareness has demonstrated its potential as a therapeutic-intervention for people with addictions.

(Dorell, 2006) a consultant psychiatrist stated that Nature-Awareness was, “able to create the bridge that we were unable to create… enabling them to respond to more traditional treatment methods”.

Another counsellor had the following to say. “It works on the spiritual side of the disease, which is hard to deliver to the patients… Nature Awareness workshops have been of great help to the treatment team it has helped us to explore areas that we would never have got by conventional therapies” (Mortensen, 2006).

While (Ward, 2007) an independent counsellor, referring to her client who had taken part in Nature-Awareness while in rehab, stated that it was an “Integral part of her recovery… which focused on the here and now”.

Exploring how People with Addictions Experienced Nature-Awareness as a Therapeutic Intervention.

Nature has been used as a healer throughout the world from the spiritual-journey delivered by Shamans to the physical-interventions of western medicine e.g. using maggots to clean out wounds. This study will look at Wilderness-therapy and more specifically at Nature-Awareness as an intervention for people with addictions, drawn from participant’s personal experiences and accounts of Nature-Awareness.

Wilderness-therapy resides outside of the traditional methods employed by residential treatment… Continue
